Wollumbin Gourmet Mushrooms
I started growing mushrooms for myself after attending a cultivation workshop in 2014. In 2016 I finished my work as a software programmer as travelling to Brisbane was getting too difficult, so I started my own mushroom business. Wollumbin Gourmet Mushrooms.
When I first started growing in 2014 I tried to create controlled environments but found contamination was too bad, one day I gave up and threw everything outside in a fit of anger! After returning from work the next weekend I found lots of beautiful mushrooms growing all over the discarded kits. I then built a shelf outside to fruit them naturally and was reasonably successful. Now I only fruit the mushrooms outside in the forest mostly with reasonable success but the weather, particularly the last few bush fire seasons have not been so kind yet still i managed to grow them.
Wollumbin Gourmet Mushrooms is a small home business located near Mt Warning (Wollumbin) in Northern NSW. Wollumbin (Mt Warning) is situated just south of the Queensland / New South Wales border about 30 minutes from Coolangatta Airport.
The local climate is almost ideal for fruiting mushrooms naturally with good amounts of rain, lots of natural forest thus creating a lovely warm humid environment most of the time.
I grow a wide variety of seasonal and micro seasonal gourmet mushrooms like Shimeji, Shiitake, King Oyster, Blue Oyster, White Oyster, Pink Oyster mushrooms, a few native native varieties and more.
i strive to fruit all the mushrooms as naturally as possible, outside in their natural environment whilst keeping them cultivated and not foraged.I believe in minimal impact on the environment and even place our logs and growing areas around and between the trees within the forest.
I make all our own cultures and spawn for the production of our Shiitake Mushroom Logs and for the Oyster cultivation tubs. I also make excess cultivation bags and sell them as “Grow at home gourmet mushroom kits”, and offer a wide variety of grow at home gourmet mushroom kits and spawn for the avid fungi or gardening enthusiast to produce their own mushrooms
I regularly hold workshops for you to learn how to grow gourmet mushrooms.

- Workshops, like how to grow mushrooms on straw or Shiitake log production.
- Soon to come value added products.
